A sophisticated computer worm discovered in 2010 that sabotaged centrifuges at Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment facility — later confirmed to have been developed jointly by the US (NSA/CIA) and Israel (Unit 8200) under Operation Olympic Games.

Silk Road was a Tor Hidden Service darknet marketplace launched in February 2011 by Ross Ulbricht, operating under the pseudonym 'Dread Pirate Roberts.' By October 2013 it had facilitated approximately $1.2 billion in Bitcoin-denominated transactions, primarily drug sales. FBI agent Christopher Tarbell arrested Ulbricht on 1 October 2013 at a San Francisco public library after Ulbricht left his laptop logged in. Ulbricht was convicted on 4 February 2015 in the Southern District of New York on seven counts including money laundering conspiracy and drug-trafficking conspiracy, and sentenced to life without parole on 29 May 2015. Two federal agents — DEA's Carl Force IV and USSS's Shaun Bridges — were convicted of embezzling over $1.1 million in Bitcoin during the investigation. President Trump commuted Ulbricht's sentence on 21 January 2025.

Jimmy Savile, a BBC presenter and celebrity fundraiser who died in October 2011, was subsequently confirmed by Operation Yewtree (Metropolitan Police, 2012–2016) to have been one of the most prolific sexual offenders in British criminal history, with 450 formal complaints covering offences across BBC studios, NHS hospitals, Broadmoor psychiatric hospital, and Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The Dame Janet Smith Review (2016, commissioned by the BBC) found that senior BBC managers had received complaints about Savile over decades and had failed to act. The Kate Lampard NHS review (2015) documented similar failures across NHS trusts. The BBC's own Newsnight programme had prepared an investigation into Savile's offending in 2011 that was shelved by editors. This is a confirmed institutional cover-up across multiple British public institutions.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled the cause of death accidental drowning with cocaine use and atherosclerotic heart disease as significant contributing conditions. Within hours of the announcement, online conspiracy communities advanced the claim that Houston had been an Illuminati 'sacrifice' — killed by the music industry or a shadowy elite cabal. The claim has no forensic, documentary, or testimonial basis.

In March 2012, the NGO Invisible Children released a 29-minute documentary calling for the arrest of Lord's Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony. The video reached 100 million views in six days — the fastest a YouTube video had spread to that point. Underlying LRA atrocities (child soldiers, abductions, killings) are extensively documented by the UN, ICC, and human-rights organisations. Critics raised substantive objections: the information was outdated (Kony had left Uganda by 2006), the framing oversimplified a complex conflict, Invisible Children's spending breakdown drew scrutiny, and the campaign's "white savior" framing was widely criticised. A US Congress bill supporting deployment of military advisers to assist the African Union mission passed before the video; the campaign amplified public and legislative attention to the LRA. The underlying claim about LRA war crimes is solidly documented; the campaign's proposed solution and framing are legitimately contested.

Between 27 November and 18 December 2013, attackers stole 40 million payment-card numbers and 70 million records of personal information from Target's point-of-sale systems. Entry was gained via stolen credentials belonging to Fazio Mechanical Services, an HVAC vendor with network access. BlackPOS RAM-scraping malware was installed on Target's POS terminals. Journalist Brian Krebs first disclosed the breach publicly on 18 December 2013, the same day Target confirmed it. CEO Gregg Steinhafel resigned on 5 May 2014; CIO Beth Jacob resigned in March 2014. Target reached an $18.5 million settlement with state AGs in May 2017. Total costs exceeded $300 million.

The MUSCULAR programme, revealed by the Washington Post in October 2013 based on Snowden documents, showed that the NSA and GCHQ had secretly tapped the unencrypted fibre-optic links connecting Google's and Yahoo's data centres to one another. Unlike PRISM, which used legal orders to compel disclosure, MUSCULAR accessed data in transit on private backbone infrastructure without the companies' knowledge. The disclosure prompted both companies to encrypt their internal links. MUSCULAR is confirmed by NSA slides published by the Washington Post.

The immediate causes were documented: cargo overloaded to three times the legal limit, illegal vessel modifications that reduced stability, crew incompetence, and an instruction to passengers to stay in place rather than evacuate. Captain Lee Jun-seok abandoned ship and was later convicted of murder. The conspiracy claim at issue is not about the sinking itself but about the government's response: the Park Geun-hye administration's delayed and disorganised rescue operation, her unaccounted-for seven-hour absence during the crisis, and subsequent pressure on media to downplay criticism were confirmed by a 2017 Special Investigation Commission established after Park's impeachment. Park was impeached and convicted partly over Sewol-related conduct. A more extreme framing — that the Park administration deliberately sank the Sewol — is not supported by evidence.

The July 17, 2014 destruction of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 (Boeing 777) over eastern Ukraine, killing 298 people. The Dutch Safety Board investigation and Joint Investigation Team (JIT) concluded the aircraft was shot down by a Russian-owned Buk surface-to-air missile system from a field in Russian-separatist-controlled Donbas.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine on 17 July 2014, killing all 298 people on board. The Dutch Safety Board (October 2015) determined the aircraft was destroyed by detonation of a 9N314M warhead carried by a 9M38 Buk surface-to-air missile. The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) concluded in 2016 and 2019 that the Buk launcher belonged to the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces based in Kursk. Russia has consistently denied involvement. In November 2022, a Dutch court convicted three individuals — two Russians and one Ukrainian — in absentia of murder. The verdict is confirmed by multiple independent investigations.

The Marriott Starwood breach exposed approximately 339 million guest records — including passport numbers, encrypted payment card details, and travel history — from a database that had been compromised since 2014. The attack was linked to Sony's forthcoming comedy 'The Interview', which satirised North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The FBI attributed the attack to North Korea on 19 December 2014. A 2018 DOJ indictment named Park Jin Hyok, a member of North Korea's Lazarus Group (Unit 180), for the Sony attack and also for WannaCry and the Bangladesh Bank heist.

One prominent hypothesis for the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 on 8 March 2014 is that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah deliberately depressurised the cabin, incapacitated or killed the passengers and crew, and flew the aircraft south into the remote Indian Ocean until fuel exhaustion. This hypothesis — most publicly argued by journalist William Langewiesche in The Atlantic in 2019 — is consistent with some evidence but is not supported by conclusive proof. No motive has been established, no suicide note was found, and the recovered debris does not definitively establish pilot intent.

Recurring claims — circulating most intensely during Kim Jong-un's extended absence from public view in 2014 and again during a two-week disappearance in 2020 — assert that one or more body doubles routinely substitute for the North Korean leader in public appearances. Evidence cited includes perceived variations in facial features across years (particularly ear-shape analysis and apparent weight-gain/loss cycles), gait changes, and a general argument from the known authoritarian-leader tradition of using doubles for security. South Korean intelligence (NIS) has not confirmed the claim; NK News, Reuters, AP, and BBC cover the gaps in what can be verified. The theory is treated here as plausible-but-unverifiable speculation.

Claims that NFL referees systematically favour specific teams — particularly the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys — or that the league directs officiating to produce desired outcomes circulate widely in sports media. The documented reality is more nuanced: officiating inconsistencies are real and historically significant (the catch rule pre-2018 reform, the 2018 NFC Championship missed pass-interference call, the pass-interference reviewable era 2019). Statistical analyses confirm a small but real home-team officiating advantage consistent with crowd noise affecting referee judgment. The leap from documented inconsistency to coordinated league-directed favoritism toward specific franchises is not supported by the evidence.

Mt. Gox, once the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, collapsed in February 2014 after announcing the loss of approximately 850,000 BTC (then ~$450M; worth billions at later prices). CEO Mark Karpelès initially claimed transaction malleability attacks were responsible. Independent blockchain forensics firm WizSec attributed the losses to systematic key theft beginning in 2011. Karpelès was convicted in March 2019 for data falsification — not theft. Alexander Vinnik, operator of BTC-e (a money laundering exchange), was indicted in 2017 for receiving proceeds of the Mt. On 23 December 2015, cyberattackers disrupted electricity supply to approximately 230,000 customers in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast for one to six hours — the first publicly confirmed successful cyberattack on civilian power grid infrastructure anywhere in the world. US-CERT (IR-ALERT-H-16-056-01), the Ukrainian SBU, and security researchers attributed the attack to Sandworm (GRU Unit 74455), who used spear-phishing to compromise three Ukrainian regional electricity distribution companies, deployed the BlackEnergy malware and KillDisk wiper, and launched a telephony denial-of-service to hamper restoration. A follow-on attack on 17 December 2016 (Industroyer/Crash Override) struck the Kiev transmission substation.

The claim that Vladimir Putin uses one or more body doubles — lookalike stand-ins who appear at public events in place of the real president — has circulated persistently since at least 2015 and intensified after Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Proponents point to perceived variations in ear shape, facial proportions, gait, voice cadence, and posture across photographs and video appearances. Former Russian political science professor Valery Solovei has publicly made the claim in numerous interviews. The Kremlin denies it. No documentary evidence — photographic, biometric, or testimonial from a confirmed insider — has been produced that definitively establishes the existence of an operational double programme. The claim remains plausible-but-unverified given the opacity of the Russian presidency and the precedent of Soviet-era deception practices.

Claims circulate that pharmaceutical companies or medical institutions suppress Repatha (evolocumab, a PCSK9 inhibitor approved by the FDA in 2015) or effective alternatives to statins. The claim has no documentary basis. Repatha is FDA-approved, actively marketed by Amgen, and available by prescription in more than 60 countries. Its limited uptake relative to statins reflects cost, insurance coverage, and prescribing guidelines — not suppression. Statins remain the first-line standard of care because they are proven, inexpensive, and widely effective; PCSK9 inhibitors are used as second-line or add-on therapy for high-risk patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond adequately to statins.

JUUL Labs launched its e-cigarette in 2015 with marketing that regulators and litigants found deliberately targeted underage users: bright colours, social media influencers, flavoured pods, and campaigns that mirrored cigarette advertising strategies proven to recruit teen smokers. Between 2017 and 2019, teen e-cigarette use surged to epidemic levels — the FDA called it a "youth vaping epidemic." Claims that unelected bureaucratic, intelligence, or security networks secretly control elected governments.

In June 2020, Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum (WEF) published "The Great Reset" agenda — a real document proposing a COVID-19 recovery framework centred on sustainability, stakeholder capitalism, and digital infrastructure. The conspiracy framing holds that "The Great Reset" is a coordinated globalist plan for world takeover, secretly being implemented by governments and corporations in concert with the WEF. What is true: the document and agenda exist, WEF does convene world leaders and executives at Davos, and specific policy proposals within it (central bank digital currencies, digital ID frameworks, ESG disclosure mandates) are active real-world policy debates. What is not supported: the existence of a secret implementation timeline, the claim that governments are covertly executing a WEF master plan, or that Schwab secretly controls heads of state. The ADL has documented that some variants of the WEF conspiracy invoke antisemitic-adjacent framings around Schwab's identity.

Claims that large-scale noncitizen voting changes U.S. election outcomes.

Prince Rogers Nelson was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park on 21 April 2016. The Midwest Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death accidental fentanyl toxicity. The fentanyl was in counterfeit Vicodin pills. The FBI investigated whether any party could be held criminally responsible for supplying the pills; the investigation closed in 2018 without charges. The counterfeit-fentanyl supply chain was real and responsible for many deaths in 2016. The claim that Prince was specifically, deliberately targeted for murder via poisoned pills has no evidentiary support.

Between August 2016 and April 2017, an anonymous group calling itself the Shadow Brokers released a series of files containing what appeared to be NSA Equation Group/Tailored Access Operations (TAO) cyberweapons, including the EternalBlue, EternalRomance, EternalSynergy, and DoublePulsar exploits. Microsoft patched the primary vulnerability (MS17-010) on 14 March 2017 after a pre-disclosure from the NSA; within two months the exploits were weaponised in WannaCry (May 2017) and NotPetya (June 2017). The identity and affiliation of the Shadow Brokers has never been definitively established; leading theories include Russian intelligence theft, an NSA insider, or both.

On the night of July 15–16, 2016, a faction of the Turkish military seized the Bosphorus bridges, bombed the Grand National Assembly, and flew F-16s over Ankara in an attempt to overthrow President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Google CEO Sundar Pichai testified before the House Judiciary Committee on 11 December 2018, declining to confirm Dragonfly was dead. Former GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with novichok nerve agent in Salisbury, England on 4 March 2018. Both survived. Dawn Sturgess died on 8 July 2018 after her partner found a discarded perfume bottle containing the novichok and she applied it to her wrist. UK investigators identified the perpetrators as GRU Unit 29155 officers Anatoliy Chepiga (travelling as 'Boshirov') and Alexander Mishkin (travelling as 'Petrov'), with a third, Denis Sergeev ('Sergey Fedotov'), acting as handler. OPCW confirmed novichok A-234. The two suspects gave an implausible TV interview claiming they had visited Salisbury to see its cathedral.

Malcolm McCormick (Mac Miller) died on 7 September 2018 at his Studio City, California home from acute mixed drug toxicity — fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. The Los Angeles County coroner ruled the manner of death accidental. Three individuals were subsequently prosecuted for their roles in the fentanyl supply chain: Cameron Pettit (pleaded guilty 2021), Ryan Reavis (pleaded guilty 2022), and Stephen Walter (convicted 2023). The 'industry sacrifice' claim has no basis; the counterfeit-pill-supply-chain prosecution is real.

The first holds that established, evidence-based care is being suppressed by transphobic state legislation (partially supported: more than 20 US states have enacted restrictions or bans since 2021). Four men were convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery in October 2023: Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright, Trayvon Newsome, and Robert Allen. The prosecution established a robbery motive — the perpetrators targeted XXXTentacion for cash he was known to be carrying. The claim that a rival record label orchestrated the killing has no evidentiary basis and contradicts the conviction record.

Boeing's 737 MAX was involved in two fatal crashes: Lion Air Flight JT610 (29 October 2018, 189 killed) and Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 (10 March 2019, 157 killed), totalling 346 deaths. Russian SVR foreign intelligence (APT29 / Cozy Bear / Nobelium) compromised the build pipeline of SolarWinds' Orion IT-monitoring platform in late 2019, inserting a trojanized DLL (SUNBURST) into a signed software update distributed to approximately 18,000 customers. Of those, roughly 100 high-value targets were enumerated for deeper intrusion, including nine US federal agencies — Treasury, Commerce, State, DHS, and others — as well as Microsoft, FireEye, and Mimecast. FireEye disclosed the attack on 8 December 2020 after discovering its own breach. CISA issued Emergency Directive 21-01 on 13 December 2020.
