The claim that Madonna is a member or agent of the Illuminati has circulated since the early 2010s, based primarily on the appearance of all-seeing-eye imagery, triangle hand gestures, and occult-adjacent stage symbolism in her performances and music videos. Her documented membership in the Kabbalah Centre (a Jewish mystical study group she joined around 1996) has been folded into the theory as presumed evidence of esoteric allegiance. The claim is debunked: the hand gestures pre-date the conspiracy framing and derive from ballroom culture popularised by "Vogue" (1990); all-seeing-eye imagery has a long documented history in mainstream Western art and architecture; the Kabbalah Centre is a documented religious organisation, not an Illuminati front; and the Illuminati as a functioning contemporary organisation does not exist. Claims that George Soros personally controls protests, prosecutors, migration, currency crises, or global politics through a hidden command structure.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., confirmed as US Secretary of Health and Human Services in February 2025, has made recurring claims that the federal government possesses hidden or suppressed adverse-event data about vaccines — sometimes described as a "vault" of concealed CDC or FDA data that would, if released, reveal a broader pattern of vaccine harm than is publicly known. The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is and has long been publicly accessible at vaers.hhs.gov. CDC publishes its vaccine-safety surveillance data through multiple public platforms. HHS and CDC maintain no publicly-disclosed "vault" of suppressed adverse-event data. Specific datasets RFK Jr has cited — including autism-prevalence breakdowns and alleged internal safety signal analyses — are either publicly available or have not been produced as documentary evidence of suppression. The claim that a discoverable vault of hidden data exists is unsubstantiated; questions about specific data granularity and research transparency at federal agencies are a legitimate ongoing policy debate.

Claims that solar geoengineering research proves an active global chemtrail spraying program.

The Bank of Credit and Commerce International — nicknamed "Bank of Crooks and Criminals International" — was founded in 1972 in Karachi by Agha Hasan Abedi with Pakistani backing and operated across 70+ countries. Regulators closed it on 5 July 1991 in a coordinated global shutdown after uncovering massive loan fraud, money laundering for Manuel Noriega, Saddam Hussein, Yasser Arafat, Marcos, and Abu Nidal, and covert use by the CIA and Saudi GID. Ramzi Yousef masterminded the attack; Mohammed Salameh, Mahmud Abouhalima, Nidal Ayyad, and Ahmad Ajaj were convicted with him at the Southern District of New York in 1994. Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald linked the cell to Omar Abdel-Rahman (the 'Blind Sheikh'), convicted in 1995 for the subsequent landmarks plot. The basic facts are thoroughly confirmed; alternate theories alleging advance government foreknowledge have been examined and discounted.

The July 20, 1993 death of Deputy White House Counsel Vincent Foster in Fort Marcy Park, Virginia, officially ruled suicide by five separate investigations. Conspiracy claims allege murder by the Clintons or a cover-up of connections to Whitewater or Hillary Clinton.

Two distinct documented patterns are examined here. First, disconnection: the Church of Scientology's documented practice of requiring members to sever contact with family members and friends who are critical of the Church or have left it. Recurring claims assert that Beyoncé's Super Bowl XLVII (2013) and Super Bowl 50 (2016) halftime performances were intentionally packed with Illuminati symbolism — the all-seeing eye, pyramid hand gestures, and other signs of alleged occult affiliation. Researchers, cultural critics, and fact-checkers have consistently demonstrated that the hand triangle gesture is the "Roc-A-Fella diamond," a pre-existing fan and label signal originating with Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records, and that the wider Illuminati conspiracy narrative applied to pop stars carries no evidentiary support and has antisemitic-adjacent roots that analysts at the Anti-Defamation League and Vox have documented in detail.

Claims that the Oklahoma City bombing involved additional hidden perpetrators, intelligence manipulation, or a government false flag.

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was shot by Yigal Amir on 4 November 1995 at Kings of Israel Square in Tel Aviv, immediately after a peace rally. Amir, a 25-year-old religious-nationalist law student, fired at close range and was apprehended on the spot. Rabin died in surgery at Ichilov Hospital. Conspiracy framings centre on the role of Shabak agent Avishai Raviv (codenamed 'Champion'), who operated as an agent-provocateur in right-wing settler circles and was acquainted with Amir, and on alleged protective-service failures documented by the Shamgar Commission. On March 20, 1995, five members of the Aum Shinrikyo cult released sarin nerve agent in five Tokyo subway lines during morning rush hour, killing 13 people and injuring approximately 6,250. The attack was ordered by cult founder Shoko Asahara (born Chizuo Matsumoto). Subsequent investigations revealed that Japanese authorities had received prior warnings about Aum's criminal activities — including an earlier sarin attack in Matsumoto (1994) and the 1989 murder of attorney Tsutsumi Sakamoto and his family — and had inadequately investigated the cult. The theory that the white trails left by aircraft in the sky are not ordinary water vapor contrails, but deliberate chemical or biological agents sprayed for purposes ranging from weather control to population management.

The claim that rapper Tupac Shakur faked his death on September 13, 1996 after being shot in a drive-by on the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996, and has since been living in exile — most commonly said to be Cuba — is one of the most persistent celebrity-death conspiracies in popular culture. The theory rests on symbolism in posthumous album releases, alleged Cuba sightings, and a general reluctance to accept the violent loss of one of hip-hop's most iconic figures. Tupac's death is documented by hospital records, a Clark County coroner's autopsy, police investigation files, and the 2023 federal indictment of the man long suspected of orchestrating the shooting.

TWA Flight 800 (Boeing 747) exploded and crashed off Long Island on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 aboard. The NTSB ruled the cause was an ignition of flammable fuel-air vapor in the center wing fuel tank. Claims of a Navy missile strike or terrorist attack have persisted.

The documented large-scale pharmaceutical cover-up of opioid addiction risk by Purdue Pharma (OxyContin), Insys (Subsys), Mallinckrodt, and related firms — contributing to over 700,000 US opioid-related deaths since 1999.

On 26 March 1997, 39 members of the Heaven's Gate religious movement were found dead at a rented mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, California. They had ingested phenobarbital mixed with vodka and applied plastic bags to their heads. Leader Marshall Applewhite had taught that a spacecraft trailing comet Hale-Bopp would transport their souls to a higher realm. Claims of government cover-up or institutional concealment are unsupported: the investigation was transparent, Applewhite's videotaped teachings are publicly available, and the deaths were thoroughly documented.

The 1997 death of Diana, Princess of Wales in a Paris car crash has spawned decades of conspiracy theories alleging assassination by British intelligence, the Royal Family, or other state actors — most forcefully championed by Mohamed Al-Fayed, father of Dodi Fayed who died in the same crash.

On the evening of 13 March 1997, two distinct aerial events over Arizona generated thousands of eyewitness reports and became one of the most widely documented mass-UFO-sighting events in American history. The USADA 'Reasoned Decision' published October 10, 2012 — a 200-page report supported by approximately 26 teammate affidavits — documented EPO injections, blood transfusions, and testosterone use. Claims that autism is caused by disproven exposures and can be cured by unproven or dangerous treatments.

In June 1998, CNN's NewsStand programme broadcast a report claiming that US Special Forces used sarin nerve agent during Operation Tailwind in Laos in September 1970, specifically to kill American defectors. CNN retracted the report in July 1998 after an independent review by First Amendment attorney Floyd Abrams found the claim was not supported by the evidence gathered. The two producers responsible were dismissed. Operation Tailwind itself was a real classified SOG mission; the sarin-on-defectors claim is the fabricated element, retracted by the news organisation that aired it.

The false claim that the MMR vaccine causes autism, originating in a fraudulent 1998 study by Andrew Wakefield published in The Lancet, which the journal formally retracted in 2010 after investigation revealed data manipulation and undisclosed financial conflicts.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has promoted vaccine-autism and vaccine-injury claims since the early 2000s, founding the World Mercury Project (later Children's Health Defense) to advance those claims. Initial reporting — including a USA Today front page and a Time cover captioned 'The Monsters Next Door' — framed the pair as outcast goths bullied into revenge by peers. Dave Cullen's 2009 book 'Columbine' and FBI profiler Dwayne Fuselier's psychological analysis demolished that framing: Harris met criteria for clinical psychopathy on the Hare PCL-R scale; Klebold was severely depressed and suicidal; neither was a bullied loner in the sense the media narrative required. The 'Trench Coat Mafia' was a separate clique whose members had graduated before the attack; Harris and Klebold wore the dusters for tactical concealment, not group identity.

In September 1999, a series of explosions destroyed apartment buildings in Moscow, Buynaksk, and Volgodonsk, killing approximately 300 people. The Russian government attributed the bombings to Chechen terrorists and used them as justification for launching the Second Chechen War — a conflict that transformed Vladimir Putin from an obscure prime minister into Russia's dominant political figure. The FSB false-flag theory remains unsubstantiated in the sense that no formal independent investigation has established FSB authorship; the circumstantial evidence, particularly the Ryazan incident, is genuine and troubling but does not constitute proof.

The claim, popularized by British writer David Icke from 1999 onward, that a race of shape-shifting reptilian humanoids from Alpha Draconis secretly rule the Earth by posing as political and royal elites including the British Royal Family.

EgyptAir Flight 990, a Boeing 767-300ER operating LAX-CAI via JFK, plunged into the Atlantic Ocean 60 miles south of Nantucket on 31 October 1999, killing all 217 people on board. The NTSB concluded in its 2002 final report that the crash resulted from the deliberate action of relief First Officer Gameel Al-Batouti, who was alone at the controls and said 'Tawakkalt ala Allah' (I rely on God) eleven times before and during the dive. Egypt's ECAA disputed the finding, attributing the crash to mechanical failure of the elevator/pitch-trim system. The dispute has never been formally resolved and reflects genuine national and investigatory disagreement.

On 7 May 1999, during NATO's Operation Allied Force air campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, US B-2 bombers struck the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, killing three Chinese journalists — Shao Yunhuan, Xu Xinghu, and Zhu Ying — and injuring dozens more. Merck launched the painkiller Vioxx (rofecoxib) in 1999 despite internal data suggesting elevated cardiovascular risk. The VIGOR trial (2000) showed a five-fold increase in heart attacks versus naproxen; Merck downplayed the finding for four years. APPROVe (2004) confirmed the risk and Merck withdrew Vioxx globally. The FDA estimated 27,000 to 55,000 excess cardiovascular deaths during the drug's five years on the market. Merck settled MDL 1657 for $4.85 billion in 2007. Internal emails show executives debating how to "handle" the cardiovascular signal. This is a confirmed corporate concealment, not a disputed claim.

GlaxoSmithKline's diabetes drug Avandia (rosiglitazone) was approved by the FDA in 1999. A 2007 meta-analysis by cardiologist Steven Nissen, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that Avandia was associated with a 43% increased risk of myocardial infarction.
