Bruchion quarter destroyed under Aurelian
Ammianus Marcellinus records that under Aurelian the citizens' quarrels turned into deadly strife, after which the city's walls were destroyed and the greater part of the Bruchion (palace) quarter, where the Library is thought to have stood, was lost. Bagnall reports signs of a consensus that Aurelian's recapture of the city from the Palmyrenes was the occasion of the Palace Library's major destruction, though no ancient source mentions the Library.
