Is it true: Prince's 2016 death: counterfeit pill murder vs accidental overdose?
There's no solid evidence for it.
Midwest Medical Examiner (2 June 2016): fentanyl toxicity, self-administered, manner of death accident. Carver County Attorney Mark Metz (19 April 2018): Prince took a counterfeit Vicodin pill containing fentanyl, the evidence shows he thought it was Vicodin, and there is no evidence any person associated with him knew he possessed counterfeit fentanyl pills. No charges, because law enforcement could not determine where the pills came from. The counterfeit pills are the official accidental explanation, so they do not support a murder claim. No documentary, forensic or testimonial evidence of an intent to kill has been produced. The supplier was never identified, which is why the claim is unsubstantiated rather than disproved.
