The Malaysian government's 2018 Safety Investigation Report was ambivalent, saying only that "the possibility of intervention by a third party cannot be excluded", and that the aircraft was deliberately turned. Inmarsat satellite pings remain the strongest dataset pointing to the southern Indian Ocean. 33+ pieces of debris consistent with a 777 have washed up on Indian Ocean coastlines since 2015 (confirmed via ATSB analysis). Main wreckage unfound after three seabed searches (2014-2017, 2018 and Ocean Infinity's 2025-26 search); in June 2026 Malaysia extended Ocean Infinity's "no find, no fee" contract to 30 June 2027 to search the remaining area.
