There's no solid evidence for it.

The raid, warrant, and document seizure are documented facts, and a grand jury indicted Trump on 37 (later 40) Espionage Act and obstruction counts, but those facts establish that the search was court-authorised, not that it was politically motivated or selectively targeted. Judge Cannon dismissed the case in July 2024 on constitutional grounds (the Special Counsel's appointment); after Trump's election Smith dropped the government's appeal as to Trump on DOJ policy grounds, and the appeal as to his co-defendants ended in February 2025 — neither on the merits. The planted-evidence framing has no evidentiary basis. The selective-prosecution argument rests mainly on the Biden documents case, which ended without charges (the Hur report noted differences between the cases, including the alleged obstruction in Trump's). FBI emails released in December 2025 show field-office doubts about probable cause before a magistrate judge approved the warrant, but they document a disagreement over tactics, not a political motive. Improper motive has not been established.
