Cook County Medical Examiner: accidental oxycodone and codeine toxicity. TMZ reported, citing unnamed law-enforcement sources, that Higgins swallowed pills as federal agents boarded the plane; Chris Long, the one member of Higgins' team who has spoken on the record, publicly disputed that account. The claim that "the encounter contributed to the fatal swallow" has partial, contested support. The stronger claim of deliberate assassination has no evidentiary basis.
