   November 2026: Expanded the account of the 2 and 4 August 1964 incidents and corrected several points: the NSA historian's study was published in 2001 and declassified in late 2005, the Pentagon Papers did not themselves expose the second attack as false, and the record shows a mistaken, selectively handled report rather than a documented hoax. Sources, timeline and FAQ were revised.
